Joseph
IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE DISPENSER OF GRACE
[12:75]
[The brothers] replied: "Its requital? He in whose camel-pack [the cup] is found – he shall be [enslaved as] a requital thereof! Thus do we [ourselves] requite the doers of [such] wrong."

* v.75 : Most of the commentators (relying, perhaps on Exodus xxii 2) assume that this was the customary punishment for theft among the ancient Hebrews. Rāzī, however, suggests that this last sentence may not be a part of the brothers’ answer but a confirmatory remark made by the Egyptian herald, meaning, “[In fact,] thus do we [Egyptians] requite the doers of such wrong.”
